The Spanish Rain

Last night we slept a few kilometer away from Valencia...somewhere between orange trees...it was raining in the night but just a little bit. In the morning we ate breakfast inside the tent because it started raining a little bit more. Suddenly it rained so heavy that the tent could not consist and water started dripping inside...in no time at all it flow also from the sides inside. We packed our sleeping bags and mats together and tried to pack all of our luggage as fast as we could. In the meanwhile there were huge puddles around us because the ground could not soack in all of the water.

Ready to start we discovered that Steffen had a flat tire. In that moment it begun to rain even more...since there was no possibility for taking shelter we had no choise as to walk. On the way to the next town we hoped to find a roof or a house where we could hide but on the way were only fences, locked empty houses behind huge walls or plantages without any possibility to hide. So we had to walk to Cullera, it was approx. 5-7 km but all of our clothes - even the shoes - were soacked with water. Such heavy rain we had not for a long time. Finally in this city we decided to get a cheap hostel in order to get dry and also our bags and tent needed some cleaning from all the mud.
This was a great decision because later on as we were eating dinner in our hostel room we saw that there was even hail outside! Someone told us that in this area in autumn it rains 5 days a month....so 1 day is behind us ;)
