We crossed the Pyrenaes!!!

Travelling is so nice and it gives us so much. It seems for us like we are in a complete different world than before our big trip. Every day happens so much  new, interesting and exciting. It is not easy to describe. Every day we meet new people and all are very interested in our journey and so helpful! We feel so happy being on this trip and discovering that there are so many people carrying about others!
And every day Is completely different, you never know what expects you...a few days ago it was already getting dark and we were still in the middle of a city and tryed to get fast out in order to find a place to sleep. But the city did not wanted to end, everywhere were tourists and the streets seemed never ending. I was worried where we will sleep this night. I imagined that we have to sleep under a bridge or somewhere on a bench but finally we got outof Set'e and a long bycicle path along the beach begun. It was really nice to see how we got further and further away from civilization. Soon there was only the beach and us. Of course there was still a train and a few cars that we heard but that did not bothered us. Finally we arrived at the beach!! We were very happy to be alone on this part of the world. It was warm so we did not put up a tent. We slept cuddled in our sleeping bags so we saw the moon and the lights of the city Set'e. It was a great feeling: the salty smell, the sound of the waves, the lights of the lighttower, yes, we arrived at the sea!
Next day we started yearly. After 10km we met a Danish couple, Nanna and Frederick, they had the same idea like us, the only difference was that they were sharing a tandem. We decided to travel at this day together and we had a lot of fun. Both are younger than us, but they think very positive, this is such a great pleasure meeting them! We laughed a lot and shared experiences. The night we slept all together next to a Channel, so this night again without a tent but with nice bottles of wine.
Next day i wanted to have a resting day because we cycled already since a few days 70km, 74km, and even 94km each day. So i felt that i needed a break. But Steffen and the Danish couple felt like cycling so we decided to go further. It was a great idea because so we made again 76km thanks using slippstream of the tandem and got close to Perpignan. Here we had a real resting day, at first in a cottage of Hubert, Karin and their children Kail and Lou and the next two nights on a Demeter Farm. Here we helped harvesting the carrotts and even showelling dung and fertilized fields. Afterwards a delicious french lunch was waiting for us. We ate with the owner of the farme, Charles and his wife Lilly. They have this big farm since 40 years. Now they do more vegetables since fruits are not sold that easy, as Lilly told us. At their beginning they had many peach, apple, pear or fique trees but unfortunately it is now hard to sell because vegetables you can use for several meals but fruits you use mostly only for desserts so people buy these less...

Tomorrow we will pass the spanish border and what we will miss is the fantastic french accent, the french  cuisine and especially the long lasting meals. As we were invited first time i was curious and afraid that i will go hungry to bed because since this trip we eat a lot...but french dinner (to us it seems like even every meal) is so interesting for Germans because it Is divided in many different parts. At first you drink an apperitif, than you eat a little of salad with a very delicious sauce, than some fish or bread or something else, than you get regional wine and the main meal like tart or quiche, after this a dessert (mostly something sweet, yogurt or fruits), than different kinds of cheese and at the end a cup of coffee. I like this way of eating very much because you spend a lot of time by talking and realy enjoying the tasty food. And it Is so interesting getting french thinking, the culture and society to know!

Finally we crossed the Pyrenaes. It was not that hard as i thought it would be. We did not took the coast road - even if it would be much prettier - but we took the Street D900 that goes more inside the country through La Perthus and it was an easy going up till this city and after we arrived on top (300m) it went down in a calm way....on the french side it was easy with almost no cars because trucks are not allowed on this street but in Spain it was anoying - trucks are allowed on the now so called street N11. This day we made it until L'Escala (94km) because friends of us were stuck there (they had a little accident with their tandem) so we wanted to meet again. It was a great idea - we enjoyed the night close to the coast, sitting in a house baraque, eating self made dinner and enjoyong fire in the old fire place. No one Is here, we are completely alone, people left this place a long time ago. Only destroyed furniture and many grafittis are withnesses of former life in Here.

Now we are in Loret de Mar. The Coast Road was very beautiful. We made Already 1900 km!!
